Ah, a sunny Friday afternoon at J.J Beans on Main at 14th. Its like coming home really. I've spent way too much time here, but it is a great place to get some work done on a weekday afternoon. Good sized tables, power, and if you time it right, it can be not too busy. The outdoor patio is great, although it is on the shady side of the street, so it can be kind of cool: bring a sweater and a butt-warmer. Forget about it on a Saturday afternoon. In the heart of the Main St. its line-ups out the door.
The music, is, well, eclectic. I would be curious to know who chooses it. I imagine its selected by the staffers, and changes at shift changes. I've heard every kind of pop music, and even jazz in here which makes it kind of fun, but I do bring my ear-buds, just in case. Right now some pseudo old-time music is playing. I say pseudo, because I've met some devotees, and they are really particular about what is authentic and what it is not, and I dare not make a mistake in their presence (Chris M. I'm looking at you!)
Coffee is good , snacks are reasonable, and the grill sandwiches: quite excellent really. I figure it must be an okay place to work as a barista, as the turnover seems relatively low: a few staffers appear to have worked here for a while.
The crowd is a real mix, but definitely a Main Street crowd. This location will stay on my list of favs for a while yet.
