You could profile me based on my favorite coffee haunts. The Wicked Cafe @ Hemlock and 7th is right up there: a funky little place not that far from home, and on the way to Granville Island. In fact, a funk mix is playing as I write.
The combination of shared tables for workspace and big comfy chairs give the cafe a unique vibe. Some decent art on the walls adds to the decor.
The coffee is pretty good, you can buy their roast if you like. The snacks are okay, but the grilled options are excellent. The service is of middling to reasonable quality, but don't expect much, that's not the reason to go there. The reason to go there really is to avoid the Starbucks and Blenz that dominate the neighbourhood.
The crowd is a mix of college age kids and some misplaced middle aged hipsters. Probably the only place near Granville and Broadway that they feel comfortable. The Broadway and Granville area is not known for its hipness. Multiple Starbucks, Blenz, and a big Chapters make the area , well, kind of boring really.
If you've ventured a little to far from Main St. and need a fix, the Wicked Cafe can be a bit of a welcome relief. A busy cafe slightly off Broadway.
